You Are Not Alone

You Are Not Alone (2018) is a tribute to transgender women of colour and an encouragement to not give up. Being a trans woman is to be subject to more discrimination than trans men due to the double standard governing our unequally gendered society. Being a person of colour is to experience racism and to feel alienation among comfortably open white LGBTQ+ folks. Being both at once is getting the ultimate combo of harassment nobody deserves. Even if being “alive and well” may seem hard to achieve for the doubly marginalized group, the artist hopes that the existence of the drawing itself will keep company to those afraid to speak up.

  • Jia Yi (or Jay/J.) is a first-year environment student who is attracted to androgynous fashion and aesthetics. Her likes include experimenting with art, learning any kind of knowledge and compulsively growing plants.
